Abstract: The impact of silicon photonics is expected to grow exponentially in the next decade, driven by the demand for routing, switching, sensing, and computing massive amounts of data. In this tutorial, the basics of silicon photonic devices will be first presented briefly. Then state-of-the-art examples of silicon photonics and CMOS circuits will be described for high-speed intensity-modulation and coherent links, router-switches, biomedical sensing, and compute accelerators.
